Schneider Electric shows off EV charging stations

Hybrids and all-electric vehicles continue to gather steam in Canada, but the growth remains slow, partly because some Canadians remain concerned about just how to keep an electric car charged without risking it running out of juice on the side of the road. Schneider Electric, a global energy product specialist, says it has a solution for that, and it will be showcasing the technology at three Toronto events in the coming months.

Schneider Electric is embarking on an electric vehicle charging tour in order to raise awareness of its EV charging solutions, as well as support its commitment to promoting energy efficiency.

Torontonians can check what how the charging stations work at the following events this spring and summer:

The Green Living Show (April 13–15)
Eco-Wheels (June 16–17)
EV Fest 2012 (September 9, 2012)

Schneider offers a few different solutions, and will be showing off a Level 2, 240 volt charging station at each of the events, as well as debuting its Level 3 quick charge station at Eco-Wheels, which is a 600 volt DV unit and will be able to charge most vehicles up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes. “It’s literally a quick charger,” says Anita Purohit, a product marketing specialist at Schneider Electric.

The company has units available for both residential and commercial use.

Purohit says the progression of the company into electric vehicle charging stations was an obvious one, since the company has always placed a high importance on a greener environment and reducing energy consumption. “This was just a natural product for us,” she says.
