Idle free for our kids campaign launches

June 8, 2011

Leading auto exec join Children’s Clean Air Network to promote idling awareness.

If there was one simple way to save gas, save money, and help clear the air, would you do it?

A new campaign partnership by the Children’s Clean Air Network and MacPhee Chevrolet is helping spread the word to motorists to go idle-free!

Incoming CADA Chairman Al MacPhee says more drivers should consider going idle-free. “We can play a huge leadership role by inspiring one small habit,” says MacPhee, who was also in the news recently for selling his Dartmouth dealership to the Steele Auto Group. “When you’re parked and it makes sense – turn the engine off. Together, we can save at least one billion dollars at the pump, hundreds of thousands of tons of emissions, and help lead to clear the air in cities across Canada.”

To help promote the campaign, MacPhee Chevrolet has provided a courtesy ‘IDLE-FREE Pace Car’ to the Children’s Clean Air Network. The car, a 2011 Chevy CRUZE Eco, is being driven to help promote the driving message of the campaign: By going idle-free and encouraging others to go idle-free, we can simply and easily help preserve our natural environment.

The pace car takes to the streets of Halifax and the Maritimes June 8th, as a part of Environment Week across Canada.

About The Children’s Clean Air Network

The Children’s Clean Air Network is a network of like-minded partners promoting “IDLE-FREE for our kids.” Their goal is to help “North America turn off its tailpipe” – when it’s parked. The goal will reduce vehicle emissions, ultimately saving billions of dollars in fuel and cutting millions of tons of greenhouse gas.

The Children’s Clean Air Network began as a grassroots campaign in 2006 at Kingswood Elementary School, near Halifax. It’s now a registered charity, based in Nova Scotia, Canada – ‘North America’s tailpipe’.

Its founder is father of two and hockey dad, Ron Zima. “Our kids are depending on us to take care of their planet. Hockey rinks and public places are prime locations where kids depend on clean air and where together, we can have a huge impact by going IDLE-FREE for our kids.”

Partner organizations include schools, businesses, media outlets, and health and environment organizations.

‘Always-on’ vehicle emissions impact the health and future of children and represent a significant loss of fuel. The Children’s Clean Air Network seeks to inspire the public and empower children to be heard on this issue.
