Hyundai slashes Accent pricing

May 18, 2011

Hyundai Canada announced this week that the base MSRP for the all-new 2012 Accent has been reduced by $1,100 from the outgoing model, while content and technology have been significantly increased.

Pricing for the 2012 Accent begins at $13,199 for the four-door model, which includes additional standard equipment valued at $1,500.

For 2012, a new five-door model has replaced the 2011 three-door model. Despite the added value of $1,440 in standard equipment, it maintains a starting price of $13,599.

All 2012 Accent models incorporate Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ styling, which has found public favour in the Sonata and Elantra, as well as a full complement of standard safety features and what Hyundai claims to be the best highway fuel economy in the subcompact class (4.8 L/100 km).

The new Accent’s all-aluminum 1.6-litre Gamma 4-cylinder engine makes use of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), a first for the subcompact category.

According to Hyundai, the Accent is the only car among its subcompact competitors to offer active front head restraints and four-wheel disc brakes as standard. All models also feature an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist (BA) as well as Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control (TCS).

A total of six airbags protect occupants in the event of a collision, including two front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, as well as curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers.

While the car’s exterior dimensions are consistent with those of traditional subcompacts, the Accent is classified by Transport Canada as a compact due to its large interior volume.

The 2012 Hyundai Accent made its North-American debut at the Montreal International Auto Show in January.
