Hyundai road trip event will see IONIQ 5 travel 15,000 km across Canada

Hyundai Auto Canada recently announced the launch of an electric vehicle road trip that will see its 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 travel to the shores of the Arctic Ocean and driving through five provinces and two territories across Canada. The event is likely to generate enthusiasm among EV drivers, and perhaps on-the-fence buyers.

The road trip was launched on April 24 with the 100 per cent electric IONIQ 5 departing from the OEM’s headquarters in Markham, Ontario, and making its way west across Canada and north to the shores of the Arctic Ocean in the hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk, in the Northwest Territories. The vehicle will cover over 15,000 kilometres.

“This project is more than just a road trip. It’s a statement of purpose. We believe in an electrified future that is accessible, reliable, and inspiring for all Canadians — from urban centres to the furthest reaches of the North,” said Christine Smith, Director of marketing at Hyundai Canada, in a statement.

Patrick Nadeau, an electric vehicle enthusiast, is the driver of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 in Hyundai Canada’s road trip project. He previously drove his own IONIQ 5 from Québec to Mexico in 2022.

“That journey captivated thousands of Canadians; generating support and intrigue from the EV community and was featured in numerous media outlets,” said the OEM in a news release. “By travelling over 15,000 kilometres without using a drop of fuel, Mr. Nadeau proved that long-distance electric travel is not only possible but also beneficial in many ways.”

Nadeau will produce content that will be shared across Hyundai Canada’s official social media channels, and a documentary-style travelogue is also planned to showcase the journey. Furthermore, due to a partnership with Canadian nonprofit  Hyundai Hope on Wheels, Nadeau will also capture immersive virtual reality experiences along the way.
