April 2025 light vehicle sales are in and the results are decent, based on DesRosiers Automotive Consultants’ latest update.
For years April has seen a miserable streak of sales, including last year when it turned out to be one of the weakest months of the year at a 1.73 million SAAR. But the streak has been broken, says DAC, with sales for April 2025 coming in at a healthy 186,000 units — an increase of around 10.2 per cent from 2024.
“From a SAAR standpoint the month landed at 1.90 million — down from the two-plus million numbers we saw in Q1, but still a very solid performance given the political and economic turmoil of the last month,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement.
He added that corporate performances were “decidedly uneven” with “a number of exceptional gains accompanied by some declines from a handful of brands.”
When looking at the scene from a vehicle mix perspective, light trucks reached an impressive 88.3 per cent of the market for April. DAC said light trucks essentially accounted for all the growth in the market as passenger car sales continued to decline.
