A new update from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants reports that March 2025 was a strong month in terms of Canadian new light vehicle sales — a strength they say was visible across most of Canada.
Saskatchewan and Manitoba in particular saw notable sales increases at an estimated 31.0% and 29.2%, respectively, while the Atlantic region enjoyed strong growth as well. Ontario was up 14.0% for the month with nearly 9,500 additional units. And Quebec, apart from these provinces, managed a modest 1.0% increase that was well below the national average.
It should be noted that the province is still cooling down after a boost in sales near the end of 2024, which saw Quebec experiencing a 6.6% sales decline for the first quarter overall. It was the only decrease among the provinces. British Columbia was up 1.3% for the first quarter, just ahead of Ontario at 1.1%.
“The adjustment in Quebec continued into March, as BEV sales plummeted in Q1,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement. “Of course, it will be the ongoing and unpredictable trade environment that sets the course for the rest of the year.”
Overall, DAC reported an estimated 185,000 units sold for March 2025 in the Canadian new light vehicle market — up 11.4%. For the first quarter, sales jumped 2.8% across Canada.
