AJAC announces 2025 Canadian Car of the Year winners

The winners of the 2025 Canadian Car of the Year Awards were announced during the opening ceremonies of the Canadian International AutoShow, with the Honda Civic garnering the grand title.

The awards announce four main category winners: Canadian Car of the Year, Canadian Electric Car of the Year, Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, and Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year. They were presented to four winners by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.

“The tough competition in all four categories reflects the depth of quality in the Canadian auto market,” said Jason Campbell, General Manager of the Canadian International AutoShow, in a statement. “Now more than ever, buyers are spoiled for choice.”

The Honda Civic claimed the title of 2025 Canadian Car of the Year — the second time in four years it takes top honours, after it won in 2022. The 2025 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year went to the Hyundai Santa Fe, while the BMW i4 received the 2025 Canadian Electric Car of the Year. And the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was named 2025 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year award.

AJAC President Evan Williams said 47 jurors from across the country drove every vehicle before casting their ballots. “It’s why I’m so confident that each year we can identify the best vehicles for Canadians, be it a car or utility vehicle, with gas or electric power,” he said in a statement.

The winning vehicles will be on display at the Canadian International AutoShow until February 23.
