Hyundai Motor Group is expanding artificial intelligence across its business, building on a digital transformation effort that began in 2019.
The automaker outlined its progress and future plans at its AX Achievement Showcase in Seoul on Aug. 12, saying accumulated data and a digitally enabled working environment have established a foundation for broader AI adoption.
“AI is undoubtedly an important technology, but ultimately it is a tool that companies must utilize. What matters is not the technology itself, but how quickly an organization can understand new technologies, including AI, apply them to its work and business, and internalize them as a source of competitive advantage,” said Eunsook Jin, President and Head of ICT Management Division, Hyundai Motor Group.
Hyundai said the mobility industry is moving beyond its traditional manufacturing focus as software and data increasingly influence competitiveness. Its response includes changing internal workflows, expanding access to generative AI tools and creating a common data infrastructure.
Among those efforts is the Global One Data Pipeline, designed to establish a global data foundation while supporting collaboration and knowledge sharing. Hyundai has also expanded employee access to generative AI through tools including H Chat Pro.
AI applications are moving into vehicle development and operations as well. Hyundai highlighted its Crash Safety AI Assistant, AI Automated Recognition Service and E-FOREST: POLARIS, along with AI-based customer support applications, as examples being used across R&D, manufacturing and service functions.
“Building on our ongoing digital transformation efforts, Hyundai Motor Group is expanding AI transformation through the integration of AI and other intelligent technologies,” said Jin in a statement.
Hyundai said its longer-term direction is the “Physical AI” era, where its accumulated data and operating experience could support AI applications spanning vehicles, robotics and manufacturing.
