Aviva Canada program supports EV charging in communities that lack access

Aviva Canada has opened the application period for its Charged for Change program, with this year’s funding supporting public electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects in communities that lack proper access.

Dealers in communities that find themselves lacking in exactly this area might want to consider bringing this opportunity to their community organizations. Aviva Canada said its $3 million program allows municipalities and Indigenous communities to apply for funding to install Level 2 EV chargers for their residents and visitors.

“We are thrilled to open applications for the third year of our Charged for Change program and are looking forward to helping even more Canadian communities install public EV infrastructure for their residents,” said Pascal Dessureault, Chief Public Affairs, Marketing and Communications Officer at Aviva Canada, in a statement.

“We know that a lack of publicly available EV charging infrastructure can be a barrier to EV adoption and want to support Canadians, particularly those in communities with little to no access, in making the switch to an EV,” he added.

The program, which was presented in partnership with Earth Day Canada, funded Level 2 charging stations for seven Ontario municipalities in its first year. It expanded across Canada in its second year. The company said municipalities across the country can submit applications through its Charged for Change homepage until the Feb. 20, 2025, deadline.

Valérie Mallamo, Executive Director at Earth Day Canada, said in a statement that the company is aware that access to public charging is a key deciding factor for consumers looking to buy an EV, and that there is “a disparity between levels of infrastructure in larger, urban centres versus smaller, often rural communities.” She said Charged for Change “hopes to level that playing field.”
