Communauto begins electrification of its Halifax fleet

New electric Communauto in Halifax (CNW Group/Communauto Inc.)

Car-sharing service Communauto recently announced the start of the electrification of its Halifax fleet, in which it aims to add five new Kia Niro electric vehicles to its current fleet.

The new initiative received support and funding from the HCi3 (Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation, and Impact Fund). One of the goals is to provide people living in the province with the opportunity to drive an EV.

Marco Viviani, VP of Strategic Development at Communauto, said the initiative is a key milestone for the company. “Carsharing is one of the most effective ways to lower emissions, not just by changing the type of vehicle people drive, but by also reducing the number of vehicles on the road and their usage,” he said in a statement.

He added that the move to electrify Communauto’s Halifax fleet will also contribute to local and national climate goals. The first EVs will be available at key locations, such as Scotia Square and Dalhousie University. More stations are pending.
