ABSC honours Shannon Willsher with Alumni Award

If you could describe a look of genuine surprise, it was watching Shannon Willsher accept her ABSC Alumni of the Year award at a special reception held by taq Automotive Intelligence, ABSC and Accelerate Auto just prior to VIP Night at the Canadian International AutoShow.

Willsher took the stage after her name was announced and a tribute video was played and delivered some impromptu remarks, but was clearly caught off guard by the honour that recognizes alumni from the Automotive Business School of Canada who have had distinguished careers in the industry, but who have also continued to give back to the program and act as an inspiration for other students.

“I’ve been in the crowd and watched so many incredible people win this award over the years,” said Willsher. “I didn’t know they surprised you with it. They really got me! I’m in complete shock right now so please excuse me that there’s no formal speech prepared.”

Willsher then delivered remarks praising the school, her employers and others who had helped her along the way. “I’m so grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way, and as I said in that video, it’s all thanks to the Automotive Business School of Canada,” she said. “I think we can all agree it’s a very unique place, and a very unique post-secondary education. I’m so happy for anyone else who chooses to take the leap into this industry as well.”

Upon graduating from the program just over a decade ago, Willsher quickly rose through the ranks and is now a General Manager at Pfaff Audi in Newmarket, Ont.

After the news was out, tributes and well wishes came in from across the industry. Andrew Ojamae, a fellow graduate and previous ABSC Alumni Award winner commented in a post on Shannon’s LinkedIn profile. “Shannon, you epitomize the perfect graduate of the Automotive Business School of Canada and are so deserving of this award! You have been an incredible ambassador to the school and have been a great role model for students to aspire towards. Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what you do in this next stage of your career!”

June Martin, who until she recently retired ran the  program’s co-op programs, also left a supportive comment as did dozens of others. “Shannon Willsher, you are a true inspiration, leader and all-round amazing human being. So proud of you and honoured to witness your continued success,” wrote Martin.
