The highest court in the European Union has now broadened the definition of “illegal emissions-cheating technology,” according to CarAdvice. “The ruling now includes ‘upstream’ technology used in order to subvert government emissions tests — even if the claimed intention was to improve engine longevity.” That additional term could potentially expose the Volkswagen Group to more lawsuits in the future.
