The 6th Annual Pink Truck Tour kicked off on September 26 to help raise funds and awareness for the cancer program at Trillium Health Partners.
The launch was presented by Toyotoshi Group Canada and organized by the Mississauga Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund at Meadowvale Toyota in Ontario. Toyotoshi began sponsoring the tour in 2016 and became presenting sponsor in 2018, helping to raise $179,078 in funds and spread awareness about the cancer program.
“This year is particularly more relevant as our first responders have dedicated so much more due to COVID-19, while the economic and social impact of the pandemic has affected efforts to raise awareness and funds for the fight,” said Mario Toyotoshi, President and CEO of Toyotoshi Group Canada.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the gathering for the launch was a smaller affair with fewer people in attendance, including Mayor Bonnie, Ward 9 Councilor Pat Saito; Caroline Riseboro, President & CEO of Trillium Health Partners Foundation; Fire Chief Tim Beckett, and Chris Varcoe, President of the Mississauga Fire Fighters Association.
This year’s truck stops are all outdoors with volunteers and community members wearing masks, and tape markings added to the ground to ensure people picking up shirts maintain the six-feet social distance required.
Toyotoshi Group Canada, which hosted the event, also raised $15,000 for its Toyotoshi Gives Back campaign this past spring. Through the Mississauga Fire Benevolent Fund it donated $11,000.00 to the Mississauga Food Bank and $4,000 to the Peel Children Centre.
“Caring for others is a core value and our employees and team members are even prouder that their work makes a meaningful contribution to their community and those waging this fight in the frontlines,” said Toyotoshi.
