Orlando-based company Beep is using its self-driving shuttle service to make special deliveries to COVID-19 frontline medical workers at the VA Medical Center located in Lake Nona.
The company partnered with the community and the Park Pizza & Brewing Company to donate and deliver lunch to healthcare workers with its autonomous shuttles.
“It’s an honour to provide for those who are on the frontline of this pandemic,” said Joe Moye, CEO of Beep. “Mobilizing our team and partnerships in any way we can to support our communities is necessary in this time of need.”
Prior to the novel coronavirus, Beep’s shuttle service operated on a daily basis throughout Lake Nona but was paused due to the current pandemic. Beep then decided to use the service to help the community.
“There are hundreds of healthcare workers in our backyard in Lake Nona Medical City that are on the frontline of this crisis each and every day,” said Jennifer Thompson, area director of Tavistock Restaurant Collection. “Our restaurants have demonstrated ongoing support for our healthcare workers in these challenging times, and this latest lunch delivery is a wonderful example of the generosity and collaboration that Lake Nona is known for.”
To ensure the safety of medical workers, each pizza box is sealed and placed on a cart that is then loaded into the shuttle. This is done by Park Pizza & Brewing restaurant employees. Medical centre personnel will then roll the cart into the hospital once the food arrives.
