Canadian Black Book Raises Over $25K for Charity

On Monday, September 9th 116 participants from across the automotive industry came together to raise over $25,140 for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation during the 22nd annual Canadian Black Book Kathy Ward Memorial Golf Tournament. The annual charity tournament, which began in 1997, was renamed last year in honour of long time Canadian Black Book CEO Kathy Ward who lost her battle with cancer in December, 2017.

Since it began, the tournament has raised over $600,000 for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation, a charity that’s mission is to “foster the strengths within youth to achieve their full potential and empower them to pursue a life without limits.”

The tournament was a major passion for Ward, who originally hoped to send 1,000 children to camp. The cost of sending one child to a Tim Horton Children’s Foundation Camp is approximately $1,000. Along with the help of Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank and TD Canada Trust, who once again stepped in as partner sponsors for the tournament, Canadian Black Book is edging closer to this goal.

“It is so amazing that we are so close to three quarters of the way to meeting Kathy’s ultimate goal,” says Brad Rome, President, Canadian Black Book. “Kathy would be so proud to know her legacy continues to raise substantial funds to help send less fortunate children to camp,” Rome said, adding that “she would be so grateful to see this tournament sell out year after year, with participants from across the industry she loved, who are so willing to contribute to such a great cause.”

Compared to last year’s monsoon-like conditions, the weather was cooperative with sunny skies as golfers teed off at the Magna Golf Club in Aurora. Dave Forrest, Boyd Mickle, Yasushi Enami and Don Durst from Subaru Canada along with Brad Rome won the scramble format tournament with a strong score of 13 under par.
