Plug’n Drive is offering a $1,000 incentive to Ontario residents who would like to purchase a used fully- electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
The non-profit organization introduced the Used EV Incentive program in collaboration with Clean Air Partnership, and has received support from the M. H. Brigham Foundation.
“One of the biggest barriers to the mass-market adoption of EVs is the higher upfront cost,” said Cara Clairman, President and CEO of Plug’n Drive. “However, most people often overlook the used marketplace. Used EVs are affordable and available, and this incentive will help more people join the EV revolution.”
It’s no secret that used car sales (in terms of dollars) continue to increase, and that Canadians have been showing a greater interest in pre-owned vehicles. Offering incentives on used EVs can provide more Canadians with the opportunity to get their hands on an electrified model that would otherwise be out of their range if purchased new.
However, residents in Ontario that wish to quality for the incentive must test drive an EV at Plug’n Drive’s Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre in North York, or at one of the company’s community outreach events around Ontario.
Consumers must also attend an “EV 101” seminar that explores the benefits of electric driving, and what they need to consider when shopping around for a pre-owned EV. These are free to attend and are held at various locations across Ontario.
Finally, they will need to purchase a used EV within up to one year of taking the seminar, while also submitting proof of ownership and insurance to Plug’n Drive.
The incentive covers all pre-owned fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric car models “with a resale sticker price below $50,000,” said Plug’n Drive.
