Green Car, Utility of the Year finalists announced

Honda, Nissan, Chrysler, Jaguar and Mitsubishi have all made it into the final round of the Canadian Green Car and Utility Vehicle of the Year.

For 2019, the Canadian Green Car of the Year finalists are: the Honda Clarity PHEV, Honda Insight, and Nissan Leaf.

For the Utility Vehicle of the Year, the finalists are: the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (Best EV in Canada for 2019), Jaguar I-PACE (2019 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year and Best Premium EV in Canada for 2019), and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

The news was delivered by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). They will announce the winners during Media Day of the Vancouver International Auto Show on March 19.

“The Canadian Green Car of the Year and Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year selection process sets the most fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles apart from the rest of the automotive marketplace,” said Mark Richardson, President of AJAC.

He adds: “Canadians who value great driving dynamics and low emissions can look to these finalists and the overall winners as being, in the opinion of AJAC journalists, the best choices in our market for what they need and want in their next vehicle.”

Entries for the awards must meet standard requirements and satisfy additional criteria around the topics of fuel efficiency, powertrain and purpose. This reflects the idea that today’s market sees eco-friendly cars in various shapes, sizes, price points, and vehicle categories, according to AJAC.

AJAC journalists test and evaluate the vehicles over a span of many months, on different road surfaces and road conditions, throughout the year. They also revisit any vehicles they missed during AJAC’s autumn Test Fest event.
