The Kijiji Team
Kijiji’s annual DealerTalkX conference focused on solutions and opportunities in an increasingly digital retail industry.
The event theme “Dealership of the Future,” set the stage for speakers to deliver more than just a review of the issues they’re being faced with.
Martin Latulippe, a successful entrepreneur, author, and business strategist, was the kickoff keynote speaker at the conference. He dove into the shift to web and digital and the importance of embracing this technology.
Latulippe believes that dealers should put more effort into creating videos and other forms of digital content rather than simply publishing photos on platforms like Facebook.
“Videos are 53 times more powerful than images,” he said.
Guy Bourgeois, a motivational speaker, trainer and author, took a different approach, choosing instead to explore the psychological aspect of performance and how one’s attitude can either limit of broaden a person’s chance of success.
“Action is always equal to reaction,” according to Bourgeois, adding that “there is always a return.”

Similarly, Dany Dubé, a sports columnist and radio host, considered the values of a sports coach and his/her team and how this can be applied to a manager of a car dealership.
Other speakers like Guy Buldoc, an entrepreneur, founder and trainer, looked at social media’s role in helping dealers connect with consumers. This seemingly untapped goldmine is what he calls a “word-of-mouth generator” for businesses.
He also explained the importance of meeting consumer needs by providing them with good quality content.
“If your media is not interesting, do you think people will come to you?” he said.
CarProof’s Brian Munro and Stephan Lalonde considered the other side of the issue: employing Millennials. They examined the who, what, where, when and why of this technologically-oriented generation and how to keep them happy in their job.
Derek Sloan and Annie Deslauriers of Sym-Tech Dealer Services were also present at Kijiji’s event to explore the future of F&I. They introduced the idea of becoming a disruptor in the auto industry rather than being disrupted by digital.
Finally, keynote speaker Stephan Maighan was all about upping your game and performance in life. His presentation was dynamic, inspiring and positive — as was the topic he discussed.
Organized by Kijiji, Canada’s largest online classifieds site, the theme of DealerTalkX 2017 is “Dealership of the future.” The Montreal, Que. event was held Sept. 21, followed by events in Calgary, Alta. Oct. 17 and Toronto, Ont. Nov. 16.
