Best new cars for teens named

U.S. News & World Report unveiled a list of the 2017 Best New Cars for Teens, which takes into account things like reliability, crash protection, and accident avoidance features.

The list includes 2017 model year Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Avalon, and 2018 Toyota Avalon cars, and 2017 Honda CR-V, Subaru Outback, and Kia Sorento SUVs.

Teenage driving may be a right of passage for many, but it is also a source of worry for several parents, according to Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars. As a result, the selected models incorporate “top-of-the-line safety features, including accident prevention and crash protection technologies, as well as features that allow parents to track their new drivers,” said Deaton.

Vehicles like the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Sorento include smartphone apps that alert parents when a vehicle goes over a set speed or drives outside a specific area. Other technologies like Teen Driver, offered on the Chevrolet Malibu and Cruze, provide parents with a report card of their teen’s driving actions.

All vehicles on the list have forward collision warning and automatic braking.
