Dealer launches e-commerce dealership

Alberta’s largest Ford automotive dealer group is offering customers the ability to purchase its vehicles without ever stepping foot in its locations. Koch Auto Group says it has launched Canada’s first “e-commerce dealership” that operates 24/7, allowing customers to chat with live operators, browse inventory and purchase or reserve a vehicle online, according to a news release.

The e-commerce platform, launched for the group’s Edmonton Koch Ford Lincoln and Leduc DK Ford locations, gives customers the options to negotiate pricing, book a test drive and go through all the terms to address any potential issues without purchasing the vehicle in full.

Consumers can reserve a vehicle with a refundable one per cent deposit using the online “Reserve” option. “This helps to prevent other customers from purchasing the vehicle that the buyer is interested in,” said the release. Online deposits come with a money-back guarantee and are risk free.

To complete the transaction, the “Purchase Vehicle” option directs consumers to use a major credit card or a Paypal account. Consumers can choose between paying the vehicle’s total online or speaking with a representative to complete the financial terms.

The group, which has been privately owned and operated by the Koch family for more than 65 years, has its third franchised dealership in Athabasca, Alta.
