CADA Chairman Harry Mertin has announced a new scholarship for students enrolled in the four year degree program at the Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC) at Georgian College.
The scholarship is named in honour of Rick Gauthier, who served as President and CEO of the CADA for 20 years.
“I had the immense pleasure to serve on the Board of Directors of the ABSC alongside Rick for three years,” said John White, President and CEO of CADA. “I witnessed first hand his passion, dedication and commitment toward the development of youth in the automobile industry. Because of his contribution, countless young people have graduated from the school and are gainfully employed and contributing effectively to our industry.”
Gauthier also worked with Georgian College to develop the four year Bachelor of Business — Automotive Management program, was involved in the formation of the new Automotive Dealership Management Program, and the-rebranding of the school from the Canadian Automotive Institute to the ABSC. In addition, he’s also been a guest speaker and lecturer for the school.
In a national communique, White said the decision was met with “enthusiastic and unanimous support” from the CADA Board of Directors and Provincial Association Executives.
“It’s an unbelievable honour and something that caught me by surprise,” said Gauthier in an interview with Canadian auto dealer. “I’ve always said these young men and women who graduate from the school are the future of the industry. They are the bright young minds that are going to reshape the auto industry in Canada for years to come. I have enormous faith in the state of the industry and how much better it will be as a result of those graduates.”
