For the third consecutive year, Prostate Cancer Canada raffled off a one-of-a-kind vehicle with its Rock the Road draw in support of prostate cancer awareness and research projects.
This year’s vehicle, was showcased and auctioned off at the Canadian International AutoShow on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 and raised $222,000 from the 13,000 tickets sold.
It is a souped up 50th anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang GT.
“Guys have real trouble talking about health and going to the doctor, and when it’s health below the waist, that means sadly too many men are dying of prostate cancer,” said Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of Prostate Cancer Canada.
“But one thing that unites men is they spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on their cars. So this is a wonderful rallying point,” added Rossi.
Rossi said the Rock the Road raffle was born two years ago, when the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) donated a customized Camaro to Prostate Cancer Canada, and asked if the organization might be interested in auctioning off the vehicle.
“We were blown away by the generosity and decided to turn this into an Ontario-wide lottery,” said Rossi.
In the past, Rossi said the vehicles auctioned off in the raffle occurred in September during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and on Father’s Day, but this year the vehicle was not only showcased at the Canadian International AutoShow but was also raffled off there.
“We want people to come check under the hood of the Mustang and then check under the hood of themselves for prostate cancer,” said Rossi.
