In the age of connectivity, there’s no question today’s consumer researches and often shops online before stepping onto a dealer’s lot. But auto dealers have been slow to keep up with all of the technological changes and behaviours of their customers, says Joe Maciariello, Google Head of Automotive, Global.

Maciariello plans to share his perspectives on the ever-changing digital consumer, and how dealers and OEMs can work together to understand customer behaviours and expectations, at the upcoming 2015 CADA Summit to be held Feb. 11, 2015, in Toronto.

The Summit aims to raise issues surrounding connectivity and how this affects the future of the automotive retail, all in one jam-packed day.

Maciariello says that in this age of connectivity, information is more readily available and accessible than it ever has been—and that means consumers expect transparency in the car buying process.

“With the web, there are many opportunities to optimize investments to ‘fish where the fish are’ so as consumer behaviour shifts, we’ll hopefully see dealers follow suit,” says Maciariello.

“The good news is that OEMs and dealers are shifting their focus to digital and this allows for more opportunities to reach and engage consumers thanks to their always connected lifestyle,” he continues, but cautions new and emerging tools can add another layer of complexity that OEMs and dealers will have to navigate.

Apart from the digital and marketing aspects of the industry, 2015 CADA Summit attendees will also hear about financing trends from Michael McGhee, senior vice-president, TD Auto Finance Canada, car sharing from world-renowned urbanist, Ken Greenberg, learn about the connected car and where it’s headed from a panel discussion led by Richard Wallace, Director, Transportation Systems Analysis, Center for Automotive Research, and hear a keynote address from Mike Jackson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AutoNation, among others.

For the third year, TD Auto Finance Canada has been the CADA Summit’s exclusive sponsor.
