On August 16, more than one million people and over 40,000 classic and special interest cars took part in the 20th annual Woodward Dream Cruise. Celebrating Detroit’s love of the automobile, the cruise takes in a 16-mile (27 km) stretch of legendary Woodward Avenue from the city limits of Detroit to the City of Pontiac, Mich.

Share for a Cause initative helped raise funds for local schools
Digital marketing agency Search Optics, which has offices in Ferndale, Mich. (one of the communities actively involved in the cruise), held a bash at the John D. Bistro, located at 22726 Woodward Avenue, just south of 9 Mile Road. Canadian auto dealer joined in the festivities and even drove down in our own special interest car, which was parked right out on Woodward Avenue during the special day and later took part in the cruise.
A key aspect of this year’s participation was Search Optics’ Share for a Cause initiative, which enabled cruise attendees to share images on Facebook and from each share, provide a donation to Detroit area schools.
Dean Braunstein, Vice-President, Corporate Marketing at Search Optics, says that the goal at this year’s Dream Cruise was to generate 1000 Facebook shares up to $10,000. “The donations are for actual programs teachers have asked to help fund,” says Braunstein. “We buy the supplies and resources needed for the teachers, so they can kick-start projects with their students.”
Graham Line, Vice-President, Business Development at Search Optics, says that besides the chance to give back to local communities, the Dream Cruise is also a chance to celebrate everything automotive and for the Search Optics team to connect with fellow car people. “Our passion is cars and our focus is automotive,” says Line. He notes that whether in Canada or the U.S., Detroit is “the centrepoint for the automotive industry. Being here today, speaks to the fact that we are automotive people. We’re excited to be the digital ambassadors for our market and working with our partners has proved to be a wonderful experience. And for all of us, right here, right now, this is automotive nirvana.”
