According to the Openlane Market Index, which monitors auction sales, in Canada during the month of the July, prices paid for vehicles at auction remained even compared with June, though there was a slight upward trend in demand compared with the same time last year; overall auction sales registering some seven percentage points higher.
Car auction prices remained flat during July, while minivan and SUV prices increased slightly, by two and one per cent respectively. Truck prices on the other hand, declined by one per cent during the same period.
Dealer interest in cars via auction actually declined during July 2011, dropping by some two percentage points; while trucks and SUVs posted the biggest gains. Interest in minivans rose by three percentage points during the same period, though still overall dealer interest was still down by some eight percentage points compared with 2010.
In the U.S. trends during July were notably different, overall auction prices decreased by two points in July compared with the previous month, with car and minivan prices each dropping by three percentage points, SUV prices by two points. Truck prices, having experienced steady declines this year actually posted a four percent gain in July. Dealer interest in the U.S. was up significantly for trucks and SUVs during the same period, but down for passenger cars and minivans.
