Used crossovers pick up speed

Crossovers gained momentum in Canada’s used-vehicle market in July, even as sales of some of the country’s highest-volume pickups and cars declined from a year earlier.

New data from CarGurus shows the Nissan Rogue posted the largest year-over-year increase among July’s 10 top-selling used vehicles, with sales rising 22.2 per cent. Each model in the top 10 recorded at least 1,000 sales during the month.

The GMC Sierra 1500 followed with an 8.8 per cent gain, while Mazda CX-5 sales increased 7.9 per cent, Toyota RAV4 sales rose 6.6 per cent and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sales climbed 5.7 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 and RAM 1500 remained the two top-selling used vehicles by volume despite sales declining 4.5 per cent and 7.4 per cent, respectively.

“The F-150 and RAM 1500 continue to lead the used market by sales volume, even as both saw sales decline from July 2025,” said David Undercoffler, Head of Consumer Insights at CarGurus, in a statement.

Crossovers also featured prominently among July’s fastest-moving used vehicles. The Subaru Forester led the ranking at an average 35.4 days to turn, followed by the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid at 36.6 days and Honda CR-V at 37.6 days.

The Subaru Crosstrek followed at 37.7 days, while the Honda Odyssey averaged 37.8 days.

CarGurus said RAV4 Hybrid sales were also up 28 per cent year over year, indicating that some practical, fuel-efficient models are combining stronger sales with faster inventory turnover.

The fastest-moving ranking included models with at least 500 sales during July.
