The Hyundai Motor Company marked 100 million units of global cumulative production, an achievement they accomplished 57 years after its foundation.
In honour of the occasion, Hyundai held a ceremony at its Ulsan Plant in Korea where its 100 millionth and one vehicle, an IONIQ 5, rolled off the final inspection conveyor belt at the plant’s shipping centre during a special handover ceremony. It was delivered directly to a customer.
“Reaching global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a meaningful milestone that was possible thanks to our customers around the world, who have chosen and supported Hyundai Motor since the very beginning,” said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, in a statement.
He added that taking on bold challenges and being in constant pursuit of innovation has allowed the automaker to achieve rapid growth. He also said it will “empower us to take ‘one step further’ toward another 100 million units as a mobility game changer.”
The Ulsan Plant began operations in 1968 and is considered the “birthplace of the development of the Korean automobile industry.” It manufactured Korea’s first mass-produced independent model called the Pony in 1975. The plant is now a central hub for electrification, and Hyundai is establishing a dedicated electric vehicle facility at the site.
