Hyundai Motor Group wants to popularize hydrogen by 2040

Hyundai Motor Group presented plans to popularize hydrogen by 2040 during a global online forum on Sept. 7, and plans to do this through the introduction of new technologies and mobility solutions.

“Hyundai Motor Group’s vision is to apply hydrogen energy in all areas of life and industry such as our homes, work-places and factories,” said Chairman Chung at the Hydrogen Wave online global forum. “The goal is to make hydrogen readily used for everyone, everything, and everywhere.”

He said the goal is to offer practical solutions and to help foster a worldwide hydrogen society by 2040.

The OEM group unveiled plans that will see the electrification of new commercial vehicle models that will include fuel cell electric or battery electric powertrains, and will apply fuel cell systems to all of its models by 2028.

“According to the Hydrogen Council, a global CEO-led initiative of leading energy, transport, industry and investment companies, hydrogen energy will account for 18 per cent of global energy demand by 2050, with a market size of USD 2.5 trillion,” said the OEM in a news release.

It adds that the popularization of hydrogen energy will help reduce CO2 emissions by more than six billion tons a year, and will help create more than 30 million new jobs.
