Feds invest over $235K to install EV chargers in ON, QC

The federal government announced a more than $235,000 investment for SWTCH Energy to install 61 electric vehicle chargers in the province of Ontario and Quebec in hopes of encouraging zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) update.

SWTCH Energy is a renewable energy retailer headquartered in Toronto, Ont. The project aims to provide an EV charging and energy management platform for users of multi-unit residential buildings (such as condos).

“SWTCH is delighted to work with Natural Resources Canada to solve the challenges of providing EV charging in multi-unit residential buildings,” said Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH Energy.

Project funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which supports the federal government’s target to have all new passenger vehicles sold in Canada be ZEVs by 2040.

So far, the government has invested more than $600 million to help make EVs more affordable, and to make charging infrastructure more accessible.
