France develops “Surveillance Service” for emissions fraud

France has established a new emissions fraud agency known as the Surveillance Service for the Vehicle and Motor Market (SSMVM). The agency’s creation follows the Volkswagen dieselgate scandal and comes as a result of a European Union directive. According to CarAdvice, the penalties range from warnings to market recalls and criminal prosecution — “with fines of up to €300,000 (around CA$505,990) for each offending engine and €1 million (around CA$1.68 million) per car that does not conform.” (Source: CadAdvice) Read the original article…
