OpenRoad Auto Group now owns 27 retail locations thanks to the recent acquisition of Sunrise Toyota in Abbotsford, B.C.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Sunrise Toyota to the OpenRoad family of dealerships while extending our passion for the Toyota brand into the Fraser Valley,” said Christian Chia, CEO of OpenRoad Auto Group. “It’s a great honour to be able to continue the Yakashiro family legacy as a premier Toyota dealer and mainstay in the community for the past 53 years.”
This is the group’s third Toyota store, and its first dealership in the Abbotsford area.
Founded by Roy Yakashiro in 1965, the store was originally named Sunrise Sales and Service when it first opened. In 1992, the company moved from South Fraser Way to Fraser Valley Auto Mall and the dealership took on the name Sunrise Toyota. With the recent acquisition, it will likely be renamed OpenRoad Toyota Abbotsford in the near future.
The new and used Toyota sales and service centre currently employs 45 part-time and full-time employees, and is managed by Mark Smith (General Manager). Management and staff will likely remain unchanged.
Separately, the group is also building a 205,000 square-foot mega facility to house the new OpenRoad Richmond Toyota centre that is expected to open in late 2019. The new facility will feature advanced technological features and environmental systems, and it will include the largest Toyota showroom and service centre in Canada, according to OpenRoad.
