Prior to April 22, 2018, otherwise known as Earth Day, the editors at Kelley Blue Book took four plug-in hybrids on a long-distance road trip from Los Angeles to Northern California to conduct a real-life comparison of what each model had to offer.
In keeping with the “green” theme, the editors reviewed models that typically run on electric power, gasoline, or a combination of both. The vehicles include the Chevrolet Volt, Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid and Toyota Prius Prime — all of which are currently available on the market today.
“Plug-in hybrids stand out for most buyers because they can plug into a regular wall socket, charge overnight, and get drivers to their job the next morning on pure electric power with zero tailpipe emissions,” said Karl Brauer, executive publisher for Kelley Blue Book. “These vehicles offer clear advantages for smarter commuting, superior fuel economy and good highway manners.”
The U.S. automotive market is seeing more and more plug-in hybrid models offered — and in a variety of options, from luxury SUVs to simple commuter cars.
