Bill 3, which would allow auto dealers to register and licence the vehicles they sell, needs to be put in the fast lane. That’s the message the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) gave to a committee of MPPs last week.
TADA presented its case to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, which is touring the province to get input on what should be included in the 2017 Ontario budget,
By making Bill 3 into law, the government would cut the red tape and inconvenience that comes with the current system of having to physically transport paperwork back and forth to a Service Ontario location, says Frank Notte, TADA’s director of government relations.
“It’s time Ontario new car dealers are able to provide in-dealership registration and deliver the sold vehicle minutes after the customer signs on the dotted line,” he says. “We hope to see Bill 3 be part of the Ontario’s 2017 budget.”
Notte points out that in-dealership registration and licensing have been available to Quebec dealers since 2002, and to New York state dealers since the mid-1990s.
“Individuals and businesses make highly secure, digital transactions every day — vehicle registrations should be no different,” he says.
