There are going to be some happy campers in 2012 as the newly donated Saskatchewan Automobile Dealers Association (SADA) bus rolls into use to take children to Camp Easter Seal.
SADA has been a long and proud supporter of Easter Seals Saskatchewan in raising money to send kids to Camp Easter Seal but earlier in 2011 it became apparent that the children’s organization was in need of a new wheelchair accessible bus.
For all their off-site programs, Easter Seal Saskatchewan has one wheelchair-accessible van and one wheelchair accessible bus. The van is used daily to take campers to medical appointments and also provide emergency transportation when campers must be seen at the local hospital. The wheelchair accessible bus is used to transport campers to off-site trips and in one day can travel as many as ten trips from camp to various destinations. The camp’s current bus is aged and in need of constant repair, often resulting in cancelled trips and disappointed campers.
SADA’s board voted to generously donated funds to purchase a brand new wheelchair accessible bus. Susan Buckle, executive director, says: “SADA has long been committed to Camp Easter Seal and is pleased to sponsor this new all access bus.”
Camp Easter Seal encourages children to become independent, explore new experiences, learn new skills, develop friendships and attain goals and learn living and life skills. “Camp Easter Seal has some of the best programs, services, and facilities in all of North America. We continue to build on camp’s programming with a goal to further enhance campers’ experiences. Some of these programs take the kids for highly anticipated off-site excursions”, explains Su Huynh, Manager, Camp Easter Seal.
Susan Buckle says: “We at SADA wish to ensure campers travel in safety in comfort and squeeze every experience possible into their time at camp, including the off-site programs.”
