British Columbia and Manitoba were on the weaker side when it came to provincial sales results for June, according to an update from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
DAC said June revealed interesting dynamics at the provincial level for the new light vehicle sales market. Their data showed general weakness in western Canada, with British Columbia seeing a mere 0.3% increase for the month. Manitoba was the only province to see sales decline from June 2024, with a decrease of 0.2%.
“Outside of a below average sales performance in the volatile PEI market, the Atlantic region remained disproportionately strong in June 2025 — a pattern we have seen in most months this year,” said DAC.
In central Canada, they said Ontario saw some improvement. Sales were up 7.4% above June 2024. In Quebec, a minor 0.7% sales increase was observed as the market there continues to struggle.
“June saw the smallest sales increase in the second quarter, and this was reflected in the mixed provincial performances,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement.
As for the first half of 2025, all of the provinces experienced positive sales growth, although Quebec was just above first half 2024 sales levels. The Atlantic region and the Prairies enjoyed double digit growth in the first half.
“First half performances were also widely divergent with Quebec, B.C., and Ontario, falling behind Alberta and the smaller volume provinces,” said King.
Overall, DAC’s update shows June new light vehicle sales reached an estimated 178,000 units sold — up 5.3% from the 169,000 units sold the same time last year. Sales for the first half rose 5.6% to 976 ,000 units sold.
