Nokian Tyres celebrates 90th anniversary of its invention: the winter tire

Nokian Tyres, inventor of the winter tire in 1934 to withstand Nordic wintry driving conditions in its native Finland, is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the winter tire this year by hosting a trivia contest.

The questions are related to the company’s achievements in the winter space. Participants have a chance to win a set of Nokian Tyres’ flagship Hakkapeliitta tires.

“Nokian Tyres tests its winter products north of the Arctic Circle at the largest company-owned winter tire test facility in the world,” the company said in a news release. They added that, in recent decades, they have expanded its legacy of innovation “to meet the all-season and all-weather tire markets.”

Nokian Tyres plans to educate drivers about driving safety during the upcoming winter season through its Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok channels. Its outreach efforts include testimonials from Nokian Tyres “Hakka Ambassadors” (tire dealers and drivers), a look back at old winter tires and the throwback commercials that promoted them, and tips for selecting the right winter tires.

The company said it continues to be the “pioneer of safe winter driving, reinventing it to meet the demands of modern drivers and changing conditions.” Its trivia contest and outreach efforts should help spark the imagination of dealers in Canada seeking to maximize their own winter tire/education to consumers this year.
