Auto group Dilawri recently announced the launch of its latest collaborations with the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) Foundation: Dilawri Book Drive for Kids (Oct. 3 to Dec. 9, 2024) and Storybook Social (Oct. 20).
“These two new initiatives reflect our shared commitment to improving the lives of Canadian children, their families and caregivers,” said Ajay Dilawri, Co-founder, Dilawri, in a statement.
In a news release, the dealer group said its Dilawri Book Drive for Kids is an opportunity to support VPL. This can be done by bringing a new or gently used children’s book to any of its 24 dealerships around the Lower Mainland.
These donated books will then become part of VPL’s community lending library — serving the Lower Mainland’s kids by building collections in daycares, schools, and childcare programs in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
The VPL Foundation will also host Storybook Social at Mercedes-Benz Vancouver: a fundraising event for families with young children. The event will include a range of activities, from a Storytime Corner to zones for discovery and play.
“Helping children discover joy in reading and giving them critical literacy skills is a vital investment in their lifelong success and happiness,” said Jenny Marsh, Executive Director of the Vancouver Public Library Foundation, in a statement. “These two events are our invitation to the public to join us in driving a better future for children in our communities.”
