CBB reveals winners of 2024 Best Retained Value Awards

Canadian Black Book has announced its 2024 Best Retained Value Awards, which includes, for the fourth consecutive year, two Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) categories. All vehicles retained an average of 67 per cent of their original MSRP — down from last year’s average of 77 per cent.

The Volkswagen ID.4 won the BEV Main category, while the Porsche Taycan was awarded top honours in the BEV Luxury category.  Other notable wins, in other categories, include the Toyota Tacoma in the Small Pickup group (Toyota has the most wins this year, followed by Porsche), and Genesis for Overall Brand: Most Improved.

“As the industry recognized a significant price correction over the last 12 months, retained value has shown it is a bellwether of brand and vehicle strength in a volatile market,” said Daniel Ross, Senior Manager of Industry Insights & Residual Value Strategy at CBB, in a statement.

He added that this year’s winners have maintained progress on their long-term strategies, while leading the way in electrification and anticipated consumer needs. “We are proud of our OEM partners who have understood these trends and utilized them to create great value for Canadian consumers in a marketplace riddled with affordability concern(s),” said Ross.

Other wins to consider include the Lexus UX-Series in the SUV: Luxury Sub-Compact/Compact category, and Toyota’s win in the SUV: Main Sub-Compact category — upsetting Subaru’s two-year streak. In the Overall categories, CBB said Toyota won Overall Brand: Car and Overall Brand: SUV/Truck for the third year in a row, while Porsche won Overall Brand: Luxury for the fourth year in a row.

CBB said it will announce its 2025 Best Residual Value Awards in early 2025. In the meantime, the full list of winners for the 17th Annual CBB Best Retained Value Awards are:
