IGAs in Québec and N.B. add night rate with discount

A night rate was implemented on the EcoCharge IGA fast-charging network for electric vehicles June 17, according to an announcement from Papillons Infrastructure Nature and Earth Day Canada.

The implementation applies to the entire EcoCharge IGA network of 102 level 3 fast-charging stations installed in the parking lots of 51 IGA supermarkets in Québec and New Brunswick. EV users will benefit from a discount of 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) when charging their vehicle in the lot from 9:00 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.

In Québec, the rate will shift from hourly ($22/h) to a kWh rate — $0.39 per kWh at night, and then $0.49 per kWh during the day.

“As an electric charging station operator from the environmental sector, we are working to implement innovative and concrete solutions to participate in the energy transition,” said Pierre Lussier, President and CEO of Papillons Infrastructure Nature and the operator of the EcoCharge network, in a statement.

He added that they are confident the rate will have a positive impact, “and hope that people will take advantage of it.”
