The Canadian Premier League (CPL) and founding partner Volkswagen Canada have teamed up to launch a program meant to honour five Canadians who are positively impacting their communities through their love of soccer.
The program originally launched in 2022 and runs annually, with the 2024 Volkswagen FC: Game Changers edition set to recognize those Canadians who embody the OEM’s commitment to ‘Be the Change.’ Doing so means taking on leadership roles within Canada’s soccer system and demonstrating that they are driving change through the sport.
“The nominees in this program are overall leaders in their communities, passionate about the sport and advocate for awareness, inclusivity, and accessibility — and we strongly believe they deserve to be recognized for that commitment,” said Mark Noonan, Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League, in a statement.
Nominations for this year’s program are now open, with the deadline set for June 3, 2024. Once an “outstanding” Canadian is selected, CPL Game Changers will receive a $5,000 donation to the community group or program of their choice. They will also receive tickets to a CPL match and custom CPL x VW swag, the latter of which is exclusive to program winners.
“Nominees can be any outstanding individuals in Canadian soccer who make a significant impact on their community through their commitment to the sport,” said the Volkswagen Canada Group in a news release.
