The recovery continues as Canadian automotive assembly grew by more than 300,000 units between 2022 and 2023, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
Based on DAC’s latest update, four out of five light vehicle OEMs experienced growth last year. Toyota led the way with production reaching 525,787 units, followed by Honda with a total of 378,477 units (up 57.3 per cent). General Motors was the only manufacturer to show a decline in production, which DAC said dipped slightly to 139,465 units.
“Light vehicle assembly has long been a staple of the Canadian manufacturing environment and it’s continued post-pandemic recovery is a welcome sign,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement.
He added that much investment has been made into the Canadian automotive assemble industries and related sectors in recent years. These “significant” investments are part of what he called a “major structural realignment towards ZEVs.”
