The Ford F-Series continues to be one of the top selling models in 2023, with 123,267 units sold — an increase of 7.4% from 2022. It has been the top selling vehicle in Canada for 14 consecutive years, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
In its update, DAC said that overall new light vehicle sales were up 11.8% in 2023 as it leaned towards recovery, though things were different at the model level where performance varied significantly. Light trucks managed a record 85.8% share of the market and the top five sellers in this category experienced strong positive performances.
“The perennial Ford F-Series continued to dominate the market,” said DAC in its news release, adding that “the second place RAM Pickups saw fairly stable sales, (and) an impressive 33.6% increase for the Toyota RAV4 saw the third place SUV closing the distance.”
The other two are the GM Sierra and Silverado pickups, both of which experienced sales totals that, together, would have exceeded 112,000 units.
For the continuously slipping passenger cars market, the Toyota Corolla kept its top spot after selling 28,260 units in 2023 — based on data from reporting OEMs. The Honda Civic, another Canadian favourite aiming for precisely that spot, was able to close the distance due to experiencing a relatively smaller sales decrease. And the Mazda 3 saw sales increase by 35.3%, putting it in fifth place among passenger cars.
“With the balance of sales continuing to shift ever further in favour of light trucks, the top selling passenger cars only reached a fraction of the volume of the top selling trucks, with even the best selling passenger cars largely seeing sales decreases for the year,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement.
