Infotainment issues make up 25 per cent of multimedia problems

For the third consecutive year, vehicle infotainment makes up for 25 per cent of all multimedia problems that consumers experience with their vehicles, according to a J.D. Power’s  2023 U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study.

In a news release, J.D. Power said this year’s study reveals that nine out of 10 infotainment issues are design-related, with the main problem being connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

“Design problems seem to be getting challenging to solve for car manufacturers,” said Ashley Edgar, Senior Director of Global Automotive Supplier Benchmarking and Alternative Mobility at J.D. Power, in a statement. “Consumers are looking for intuitive systems that are simple and not too distracting from the road.”

Edgar said the challenge to automotive manufacturers and suppliers lies in translating consumer expectations into design and functionality. “By meeting customer needs, both quality and satisfaction will increase.”

Based on the study, the highest-ranked vehicles in each segment are the Dodge Charger (midsize/large), the Chevrolet Corvette (midsize/large premium), and the Mercedes-Benz CLA (small/compact premium). The Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, and Nissan Rogue are all tied in the small/compact vehicle segment.

J.D. Power’s study was conducted from February through May 2023 and includes the response of 93,380 buyers and lessees of new 2023 model-year vehicles. They were surveyed after 90 days of ownership.
