The Honda Civic was named 2022 Canadian Car of the Year and the Hyundai Tucson as the 2022 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.
The news was announced on REV TV and ajac.ca on March 1. The winners were selected by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
“AJAC is very proud to present our highest honours to the 2022 Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year,” said AJAC President Stephanie Wallcraft.
In a news release, the association said the winners were selected from more than 250 eligible vehicles, including models that were newly designed, recently refreshed, or carried over from last year.
The announcement follows months of testing and evaluations by automotive journalists from across the country. “Our members represent the largest and most diverse collective of automotive expertise in the country, and they test these vehicles in the very same conditions Canadians experience from coast to coast every single day,” said Wallcraft.
The ballots were scored anonymously based on a variety of factors, including performance, features, technology, design, usability and value. The list was narrowed down to 13 categories this year, and three finalists were announced for each overall award category.
The award presentation is typically held during the opening ceremonies of the Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS) in Toronto, Ont., but due to the cancellation of the show this year it was broadcasted on REV TV and ajac.ca.
