BlackKite launches research hub with info on new, emerging cyber security threats

BlackKite, a cyber security risk rating and monitoring system provider, recently launched a research hub that will provide coverage of new and emerging cyber security threats.

The Black Kite Research Hub includes news updates and research reports, such as the company’s Cyber Risk Trends Among the Largest U.S. Public and Private Companies study, which found that more than a quarter of Fortune 100 companies are highly susceptible to a ransomware attack.

It also found that 60 per cent of these companies experienced a breach in the past; more than 75 per cent are likely to incur a phishing attack; and that credential management is the most prevalent vulnerability for these companies, as 70 per cent have an “F” or “poor” rating.

Other updates from BlackKite discuss the Windows (CVE-2021-40444 MSHTML) remote-code execution vulnerability, why it matters, and how Microsoft recently published a fix.

“The Windows versions impacted by the vulnerability are widely used by corporate networks and their employees. If not patched, threat actors can generate malicious Office and RTF documents, as well as CAB files to remotely execute commands on a target system,” said BlackKite.

“A victimized remote worker who uses Windows 10, or a vendor who uses Windows 2008 R2, may cause a data breach and/or a ransomware attack by simply opening a Word document,” the company adds.

Cyber Security Awareness Month is right around the corner in October, but dealers can keep up-to-date with cyber security information throughout the year, and doing so can help dealerships better navigate potential cyber attack situations that may arise at any time.

This topic will be discussed in further detail in our October issue of Canadian auto dealer.
