DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc., (DAC) released July 2021 Canadian Sales data in their recent DesRosiers Automotive Report. Overall sales for July 2021 fell 5.7% compared to 2020 levels, with approximately 155,657 units sold across the country. The drop in sales is attributed in part to ongoing semiconductor shortages which are making it difficult for dealers to find inventory. Ultimately, the industry is battling low supply amidst huge demands from consumers, a problem that is affecting sales.
According to the report, the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) for July reached 1.71 million. Although this shows that June’s improvement is continuing, the SAAR is still well below March’s 1.92 million. However, Andrew King, Managing Partner of DAC points out that some manufacturers have seen a sales increase compared to last year.
“Beneath the somewhat tepid top-line number, it was not all doom and gloom with some manufacturers increasing sales from 2020,” King said in a recent press release. “These disparities in performance are the real story for the month, and will likely persist for the remainder of the year as the impact of the semiconductor shortages continue to vary greatly by model and by manufacturer,” he added.
