Volkswagen’s first fully electric compact SUV crossover, the ID.4, was unveiled during an “Electric for Everyone” event held by OpenRoad VW Burnaby on August 9.
The event offered a family-friendly debut of the vehicle, and included select customer test drives and a display of a fully-converted-to-electric 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 (13-Window) Safari Microbus.
“We’re excited to welcome VW’s first fully electric vehicle to the OpenRoad VW family,” said Harj Gill, Vice President of Regional Operations for OpenRoad VW Burnaby. “The ID.4 is the ideal Vancouver SUV. It’s compact, it’s stylish, it’s technologically advanced, and most importantly, it’s environmentally friendly.”
The ID.4 is one of 75 fully electric models that the brand plans to release globally by 2029. It features an estimated single-charge range of 400 kilometres, (which they say allows people to easily travel from Vancouver to Kelowna without recharging). And is available in both rear- and all-wheel drive, with the option of 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque.
OpenRoad said VW Burnaby has hundreds of customers waiting to receive the first units of the ID.4, which they expect will be delivered this fall.
Volkswagen pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
