The most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce to date was unveiled in Vancouver on Friday July 23, 2021 at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Vancouver. Valued at $660,000, the new Rolls-Royce Ghost made its debut in twilight purple at the press event which also included a live video presentation by Martin Fritsches, the new President of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America. Also in attendance were Matthew Wilson, General Manager, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Canada; Aly Jiwani, Vice President of Regional Operations, OpenRoad Auto Group; and Steven Wu, Brand Manager, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Vancouver.
“Despite the pandemic, sales continue to be on a record pace this year with the new Ghost helping to drive the market here in Vancouver,” said Jiwani. According to the company’s press release, the new Ghost succeeds as the company’s most successful product in its 116-year history. In 2009, the first Goodwood Ghost was released as a response to a new generation of clients who wanted a smaller, less ostentatious Rolls-Royce. Over the Ghost’s ten-year lifespan, it has become the company’s most successful model.
“The only components that we carried over from the first Goodwood Ghost were the Spirit of Ecstasy and umbrellas. Everything else was designed, crafted, and engineered from the ground up,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “The result is the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet. It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs and perfectly in tune with the times.”
The new Ghost is equipped with a 6.74-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. With Rolls-Royce’s rigid aluminium “spaceframe,” the new Ghost also sports the world’s first Planar suspension system that significantly increases the vehicle’s agility. Other advancements include doors that electronically open and close as well as interior components tuned to a specific resonant frequency that creates a sense of serenity for both driver and passengers.
“To create a new product that would resonate with our Ghost clients for the next ten years meant we had to listen carefully to their demands,” Müller-Ötvös said. “With [the] new Ghost we set new standards in customer centricity by creating a completely new motor car for a unique group of Rolls-Royce’s clients. These business leaders and entrepreneurs demand more of their Ghost than ever. They require a new type of super-luxury saloon that is dynamic, serenely comfortable, and perfect in its minimalism. Ghost is this product.”
