Toyota Canada officially opened a new 350,000 square-foot Eastern Canada Parts Distribution Centre (ECPDC) in Clarington, Ont., built on a 30-acre parcel of land near the corner of Baseline Road and Lambs Road in Bowmanville.
Announced on November 8, the OEM said the new facility is expected to play an essential role in Toyota’s Canadian parts and service operations by providing greater efficiency for its Toyota and Lexus customers across Eastern Canada.
The ECPDC is located in an area that provides direct access to major transportation routes, which can help the OEM better serve Toyota and Lexus dealerships from Manitoba to Newfoundland.
Some of the facility’s features include separation between the equipment and workers through signage and barriers, shelving a maximum of 63-inches above the floor, bulk items kept at a height that employees can manage without the risk of injury, and ensuring air quality and temperature are maintained using large air turnover units and an energy recovery ventilation system.
There is also a rooftop garden and a park area for employees, a fully equipped gym, a cafeteria, a wellness room, and a private lounge for truck drivers that also includes shower facilities.
When building its new ECPDC, the OEM also donated more than $500,000 to develop a 600-metre recreational trail connecting Toyota’s new facility to the community’s existing Soper Creek Trail system — in addition to a 400-metre trail to create a partial link to Clarington’s Waterfront Trail.
