The federal government will invest $495,000 in Saint John Energy in New Brunswick to help build 99 electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers across the Maritimes.
The Dec. 10 announcement by Seamus O’Regan, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, is meant to help encourage and boost the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).
“We are providing greener options for Canadians to get where they need to go,” said O’Regan. “This is how we get to net zero by 2050.”
The investment will add new level 2 chargers. Additional contributors and site locations include the Edmundston, Perth-Andover, Mahone Bay, Berwick, Summerside, and Antigonish — the last of which will see 12 new level 2 EV chargers installed.
Antigonish is contributing $47,955 to the project. The total cost of the project, with federal funding, is $1,138,689.
“Saint John will soon offer increased access to charging at select public locations within the city for current residents and visitors alike,” said Ryan Mitchell, Vice-President, Saint John Energy.
